A precision temperature calibration instrument designed for industrial field applications. The device extends high-performance metrology to portable fieldwork by maximizing speed and functionality with minimal compromise to measurement accuracy.

This Field Metrology Well accommodates a wide range of sensor types and provides calibration capabilities for temperature transmitters, RTD sensors, thermocouples, and 4-20 mA transmitters. The optional process version includes a built-in two-channel thermometer readout featuring 24V loop power supply.

Key operational characteristics include lightweight portable design under 8.2 kg, small footprint for easy transport, and rapid temperature stabilization. The instrument features gradient-temperature compensation technology enabling stable performance in unstable field environments with wide temperature variations.

The device accepts ITS-90 reference PRTs with individual calibration constants residing in memory chips, allowing interchangeable sensor use. Reference probe data remains accessible through 6-pin DIN connectors for seamless integration.

Built-in features address substantial calibration workloads. Automated thermostatic switch test procedures offer both auto setup requiring only nominal switch temperature entry, and manual customizable procedures allowing programmable ramp rates and multiple cycles. Results display final deadband temperature readings through LCD output.

Metrology performance encompasses six key criteria: accuracy, stability, axial uniformity, radial uniformity, loading effects, and hysteresis characteristics. All specifications include NVLAP-accredited calibration certificates backed by robust uncertainty analysis considering temperature gradients, loading effects, and hysteresis. Calibrations maintain 4:1 test uncertainty ratios.

Control technology guarantees excellent performance across extreme environmental conditions. Thermal block characteristics provide radial uniformity to ±0.01°C and axial uniformity to ±0.05°C at 40mm depth.

Onboard non-volatile memory documents up to 20 tests, recording block temperature, reference temperature, UUT values, error data, date, and time. Tests receive unique alphanumeric identification enabling easy front-panel recall and viewing.

Operation requires three basic steps with intuitive large LCD display, function keys, and menu navigation buttons. Stability indicator provides visual and audible confirmation when temperature stabilizes to selectable criteria. Preprogrammed calibration routines stored in memory enable easy recall with accessible front-panel inputs.

Environmental specifications guarantee performance over 13°C to 33°C operating conditions. Computer interface via RS-232 enables data management and integration with automation systems including the 1586A Super-DAQ for automated temperature sensor calibration.
